I hate networking.
Am I allowed to say that? I am a real estate agent after all. Aren't we supposed to be brash, willful and great at talking about ourselves? Maybe, some of us are that's for sure.
I am more comfortable speaking to a group or large crowd than I am walking around at a networking meeting where business owners push their hands out in front of them hoping someone else will shake it and want to hear about their business.
So what do I do about it, I read networking "self-help" guides. I even joined a local networking group called BNI that meets every week. Has this hatred of networking affected my business? Maybe, maybe not. Am I good at what I do? Yes. Do I enjoy my job? I love real estate. I love meeting new clients and helping them achieve their goals. I actually enjoy speaking in front of large crowds so long as I have had time to prepare.
As Sarah and I begin to completely re-invent our "brand" this year, I look forward to the changes. Even though I know that networking is one area I may never be exceptional at, I will have to hope that meeting people individually will continue to be fruitful.
So if you see me out in the community, please come talk to me. Maybe you can tell me something that you struggle with.
